The Church is comprised of all believers or the People of God. Ordained clergy have a distinct role and function in the Church; all of the baptized are a part of the whole of the Body of Christ. Together with ordained ministers, the lay faithful are called to live out their baptism through spreading the gospel message and ministering to people in need.

The entire body of the faithful, anointed as they are by the Holy One, cannot err in matters of belief. They manifest this special property by means of the whole peoples' supernatural discernment in matters of faith when ‘from the Bishops down to the last of the lay faithful,’ they show universal agreement in matters of faith and morals. That discernment in matters of faith is aroused and sustained by the Spirit of truth. (Lumen Gentium #12) 

La Iglesia está compuesta por todos los creyentes o el Pueblo de Dios. El clero ordenado tiene un papel y una función distintos en la Iglesia; todos los bautizados son parte del todo el Cuerpo de Cristo. Junto con los ministros ordenados, los fieles laicos están llamados a vivir su bautismo difundiendo el mensaje del evangelio y ministrando a las personas necesitadas.

Todo el cuerpo de los fieles, ungidos como están por el Santo, no puede equivocarse en materia de creencia. Manifiestan esta propiedad especial mediante el discernimiento sobrenatural de todo el pueblo en materia de fe cuando, “desde los obispos hasta el último de los fieles laicos”, muestran un acuerdo universal en materia de fe y moral. Ese discernimiento en asuntos de fe es suscitado y sostenido por el Espíritu de verdad. (Lumen Gentium nº 12)
